Are You Choosing the Best Medicare Supplement Plans in Tennessee Based on the Right Factors?

October 13, 2026 By Randy Hall

Best Medicare Supplement plans in Tennessee

Choosing health coverage can feel hard. There are many plans, prices, and rules to review. It is easy to focus only on the monthly cost. A better approach is to look at the full picture.

The best Medicare Supplement plans in Tennessee should fit your health needs, budget, and plans for the future. Comparing benefits, rates, provider access, and coverage rules can help you make a more informed choice.

Standard Benefit Options

Federal rules set the main benefits for each Medigap plan letter. For example, Plan G has the same basic benefits from each insurer. This makes plans easier to compare. Look at the price, rate method, and company before you choose a policy.

Pricing Structure Methods

Insurance companies use different ways to set Medigap prices. These include issue age, attained age, and community rating. With attained age pricing, your rate may rise as you get older. Check how each company sets its rates. This can help you plan for future costs.

Insurance Carrier Reliability

Some insurers may offer low rates when you first join. Those rates can change over time. Check the company’s rate history before you choose a plan. You should also review its financial strength. A low starting price should not be the only factor you consider.

Household Savings Discounts

Some insurers offer discounts when more than one person in a home has a policy. The rules and savings vary by company. Ask about household discounts when you compare the best Medicare Supplement plans in Tennessee. Even a small discount can lower your monthly cost.

Future Health Needs

Your health needs may change as you get older. Buying a new Medigap plan later may also involve health questions. This depends on your situation and the rules that apply. Think about future needs when you compare plans today. Also, learn about your enrollment rights.

Out-of-Pocket Costs

Original Medicare does not have a yearly limit on your out-of-pocket costs. Medigap plans can help pay some of these costs. The amount of help depends on the plan. Check each plan’s benefits before you enroll. This will help you understand your possible costs.

What Makes One Tennessee Medicare Advantage Plan Different From Another?

Tennessee Medicare Advantage plans can differ in many ways. They may have different doctors, drug lists, costs, and extra benefits. Plans can also serve different areas. Compare these details before you choose a plan. This can help you find coverage that fits your needs.

Provider Network Limits

HMO plans usually ask you to use doctors in their network. Some exceptions may apply. PPO plans often give you more choice, but out-of-network care may cost more. Check your doctors and hospitals before you enroll. Make sure your preferred providers are in the plan’s network.

Drug Formulary Lists

Each plan has a list of drugs it covers. This list is called a formulary. Your drug costs may depend on the drug’s tier. Check all your regular medicines before you choose a plan. Also, check which pharmacies you can use.

Extra Benefit Perks

Many Medicare Advantage plans offer extra benefits. These may include dental, vision, hearing, or fitness benefits. Some plans may offer other health benefits, too. Compare these extras with your needs. There is little value in a benefit you will not use.

Maximum Spending Caps

Tennessee Medicare Advantage plans have a yearly limit for covered medical costs. This limit can help protect you from very high bills. Compare the limits when you review plans. A lower limit may help if you need a lot of care during the year.

Service Area Bounds

Medicare Advantage plans serve set areas. Your county and ZIP code can affect your choices. A move to another area may also affect your plan. Check your ZIP code before you enroll. This will show which plans are open to you.

Star Quality Ratings

Medicare gives plans star ratings based on several areas. These ratings can cover care, member needs, and customer service. Check the current rating when you compare plans. You can also review each part of the rating. This gives you more detail about plan quality.

Key Takeaways

  • Standard Coverage Rules: Medigap plans with the same letter have the same basic benefits across insurers.
  • Rate Growth Styles: The way an insurer sets rates can affect your costs as you get older.
  • Carrier History Matters: Check an insurer’s rate history and financial strength before you choose a plan.
  • Network Freedom Differs: HMO and PPO plans have different network rules. Check your doctors before you enroll.
  • Prescription Costs Vary: Check your drugs and their costs before choosing a Medicare Advantage plan.
  • Extra Coverage Extras: Medicare Advantage plans may offer dental, vision, hearing, and fitness benefits.
  • County-Based Limits: Your county and ZIP code can affect which Medicare Advantage plans you can choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.1) What is the main difference between standard Medicare Supplement policies and Advantage options?

Medicare Supplement plans work with Original Medicare. They help pay some costs that Original Medicare does not pay. Medicare Advantage plans come from private insurers. They may use doctor networks and often include drug coverage and extra benefits.

Q.2) How do initial enrollment periods affect my ability to secure Medigap coverage without medical questions?

Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period lasts six months. It starts when you are 65 or older and have Part B. During this time, you have key rights when buying Medigap coverage. Rules may change after this period ends.

Q.3) Are prescription drug costs covered under basic Medigap options, or do I need separate coverage?

Medigap plans sold today do not cover most retail prescription drugs. You will usually need a separate Part D plan for your medicines. Compare the plan’s drug list, premium, and costs before you enroll.

Q.4) Why do monthly prices for identical Medigap letter options vary so much between local insurance carriers?

Plans with the same letter have the same basic benefits. However, their prices can be different. Each insurer sets its own rates. Age, location, tobacco use, and the way rates are set can affect the price.

Q.5) How often can local residents review and change their Medicare Advantage coverage without penalty?

The Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 through December 7. During this time, you can make certain changes to your Medicare coverage. Other enrollment periods may apply in some cases. Your options depend on your situation.

Take the Stress Out of Medicare Planning

Choosing health coverage does not have to be hard. Start with your doctors, medicines, budget, and health needs. Then compare the plans that fit those needs. The best Medicare Supplement plans in Tennessee can offer useful help with costs and give you more choice in care.

A local Medicare advisor can also make the process easier. For help in Tennessee, contact Mr. Nice Guy Medicare Advisor to review your options.

What Questions Should You Ask a Medicare Broker in Franklin, TN?

March 12, 2026 By Randy Hall

Best medicare agent in Franklin, TN

Choosing a health plan feels like a full-time job. The mail piles up, and the phone rings off the hook. Many folks in Middle Tennessee feel buried under all the options. It helps to talk to a pro who knows the local area.

Finding a reliable Medicare broker in Franklin, TN, can save you a lot of stress. They help you sort through the noise and find a plan that actually fits your life and your wallet.

Are you an independent agent or do you work for one company?

This is a huge first question. Some agents only sell plans from one big insurance brand. They have to push that company even if it is not the best deal for you.

An independent broker works with many different carriers. They can shop around to find the lowest price and the best perks.

Since they do not have a boss at an insurance firm, they give you the real scoop on every plan available in your zip code.

Which doctors and hospitals are in the network?

Nothing hurts more than picking a plan and finding out your favorite doctor does not take it. You must ask if your current specialists and the local hospitals are “in-network.” If you go out of network, you might pay the whole bill yourself.

The best Medical agent in Franklin, TN, uses special tools to check every doctor on your list. This ensures you keep seeing the people you trust without paying extra fees or filing tons of paperwork.

How will my specific prescriptions be covered?

Drug costs change every single year. A plan might cover your heart meds today, but drop them tomorrow. You need to know which “tier” your pills fall into. High-tier drugs cost way more.

A good broker looks at your exact list of meds. They math out the total cost for the whole year. This prevents “sticker shock” when you walk up to the pharmacy counter to pick up your monthly refill.

What is the total out-of-pocket limit?

Monthly premiums are only half the story. You also need to look at the “moop” or Maximum Out-of-Pocket limit. This is the most you would have to pay in a year if you got really sick or hurt.

Lower premiums often mean a higher out-of-pocket limit. If you have a major surgery, that low-cost plan could end up costing you thousands.

Seeing the best medicare agent in Franklin, TN, helps you find a balance between monthly bills and emergency costs.

Does this plan include dental, vision, and hearing?

Original Medicare usually does not cover your teeth, eyes, or ears. Many people want these extra perks. Some Advantage plans toss these in for “free,” but the coverage levels vary wildly.

One plan might pay for a full set of dentures while another only pays for a cleaning. You should ask for the fine print on these extras.

Knowing the details upfront keeps you from getting stuck with a massive dental bill later on down the road.

Will you help me if the insurance company denies a claim?

Signing up is just the start. The real test happens when you actually use the insurance. Sometimes companies make mistakes or deny a scan your doctor ordered.

You want a partner who stays by your side after the paperwork is done. A dedicated advisor acts as your advocate.

They know how to talk to the insurance companies to fix errors. This saves you from sitting on hold for hours or fighting with a computer.

How do these changes affect my 2026 Medicare plan?

The government and insurance companies tweak the rules every year. What worked last year might be a bad deal now. You need to stay on top of new laws that change how much you pay for drugs or doctor visits.

Asking about your 2026 Medicare plan options ensures you are not stuck with old info. A pro will tell you if your current plan is still the top choice or if a new one just hit the market.

What happens if I travel outside of Tennessee?

If you love road trips or visiting grandkids in other states, this is a big deal. Some plans only work at home. Others let you see doctors anywhere in the country. You need to know if your coverage travels with you.

If you get an ear infection while on vacation, you do not want to find out your insurance is “local only.” A broker helps you find a plan that offers “nationwide” access if you plan to roam.

Feature Original Medicare (Parts A & B) Medicare Advantage (Part C) Medicare Supplement (Medigap)
Monthly Premium Low (Standard Part B fee) Often $0 or very low Higher monthly cost
Doctor Choice Any doctor in the U.S. who takes Medicare Usually, a fixed network (HMO/PPO) Any doctor in the U.S. who takes Medicare
Out-of-Pocket Costs No yearly limit Has a “MOOP” (Maximum limit) Very low to $0 after premium
Prescriptions Need a separate Part D plan Usually included in the plan Need a separate Part D plan
Extra Perks None (No dental/vision) Often includes dental, vision, & gym None (Medical only)
Referrals No referrals needed May need them for specialists No referrals needed

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.1) Does it cost money to work with a broker for my enrollment?

No. Insurance companies pay the brokers a commission. Your plan price stays the same whether you use a broker or sign up by yourself. You get expert advice for zero extra dollars. This professional guidance ensures you don’t miss hidden costs or better deals available in your specific zip code.

Q.2) Can I switch my plan later during the year?

Yes, but only during certain times of the year. The most common time is the Annual Enrollment Period in the fall. If you move or lose other coverage, you might get a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan. Keeping a close eye on these dates helps you adjust your coverage as your health needs or budget change over time.

Q.3) What is the difference between an agent and a broker in Tennessee?

An agent often works for just one company. A Medicare broker in Franklin, TN, usually works with many different companies. This gives you more options and a more honest look at the whole market. Brokers act as independent shoppers who compare multiple carriers to find the one that fits your unique lifestyle best.

Q.4) When should I start looking at my 65th birthday options for coverage?

Start about six months before you turn 65. This gives you plenty of time to learn the ropes without feeling rushed. You can sign up as early as three months before your birthday month. Early research prevents a last-minute scramble and ensures your new insurance is active the very day you celebrate your milestone birthday.

Q.5) What is the “donut hole” in drug coverage for 2026?

This is a gap in some drug plans where you have to pay more for your meds. New laws are phasing this out, but you should still ask how a 2026 Medicare plan handles your specific prescriptions to be safe. Understanding the new $2,000 out-of-pocket cap for 2026 will help you see exactly how much you can save on your pharmacy bills this year.

Your Shortcut to Stress-Free Coverage

Medicare does not have to be a nightmare. Asking the right questions helps you take control of your health future.

If you want clear answers without the high-pressure sales talk, call Mr. Nice Guy Medicare Advisor. I offer free, unbiased help to make sure you get the best coverage for your lifestyle.

Plan G vs. Plan N: A New Perspective

February 24, 2026 By Randy Hall

Back when I started as an agent the question I’d get from those wanting to buy a Medicare Supplement (aka Medigap) was: should I get a Plan F or a Plan G? Plan F, back then, offered the most comprehensive coverage, but what did that actually mean?

In actuality, the only difference between a Plan F & G was F covered the Part B deductible and G didn’t. Back then, the Part B deductible was around $140 and an annual deductible, which means once someone met the deductible Plan G was the same as an F plan.

The premiums between an F and G would usually be $25-30 a month difference for most companies at the time. Furthermore, once the annual rate increases (say 8% annually to be conservative) began to be applied, over time, the disparity would grow. Say for instance you had a 65-year-old woman have a $140 Plan F per month or a $110 Plan G monthly offered, here’s what you could expect the monthly premiums to mature to if they had an 8% annual rate increase:

                           Plan F            Plan G

65                          $140                    $115

70                          $205.71               $168.98

75                          $302.25               $248.28

Granted, the Part B premium does go up every year (in 2026 it’s at $283), you’re paying far more annually (at least double) than it would pay to have that covered.

Eventually though, in 2020, Plan F was removed for those who’ve aged into Medicare since 2020. Now, Plan G is the most comprehensive plan available to folks turning 65 and I’d just been selling it blindly since.

Then a client named Tim came to see me in December and he said he wanted a plan N. While N has been available since 2010, I’d only sold a few of them since it had a $20 doctor co-pay per visit and didn’t cover Part B excess charges. So, I got on my quote machine and gave him quotes for a 65-year-old male for a plan N. Much to my surprise the difference in price was stark! Much more so than I remember it being.

The most competitive Plan G was $140 monthly and on the same company it was $90 a month for a plan N! So, I asked him where he went to the doctor and all his docs took Medicare assignment (you can look this up on the Medicare.gov website).

The reason this is important is if a doctor or facility takes Medicare assignment, that means they can’t charge Medicare Part B excess charges. In fact, to even charge excess charges (the limit is up to 15% more than the Medicare allowable amount in my state, Tennessee), a doctor or facility must opt out of Medicare assignment, and only 3% of all physicians and facilities have even done that. Many of the ones who do opt out are in the mental health field and are usually psychiatrists or psychologists. So that took the sting off of Plan N not covering excess charges, since it’s exceedingly rare it would ever be an issue.

Beyond that, Plan N could charge a $20 co-pay to see the doctor whereas Plan G won’t. Unless you go to the doctor on a constant basis this isn’t that big a deal either. Furthermore, neither plan covers the Part B deductible, so until you meet the deductible, you’ll still be paying 20% of the doctor visit until you’ve met the deductible on N or G. The $20 co-pay only really matters once the Part B deductible has been met for the year!

To drive home the point, let’s look at the long-term difference between G & N from Tim’s perspective, if there was an 8% annual increase:

                          Plan G                 Plan N

65                          $140                         $90

70                          $205.71                    $132.24

75                          $302.25                    $194.30

It’s the law of compound interest in reverse! Tim had me convinced that Plan N was an extremely viable option. And, suffice-it-to-say, that’s what he went with.

In summary, Plan G may be the most comprehensive plan, just like Plan F was back-in-the-day, but it wasn’t usually the one that made the most sense from an overall cost perspective. Now Plan N seems positioned to be the one that stands out nowadays as the most cost-efficient. Granted both are excellent coverage for the price, but I won’t be sleeping on N as a good choice anymore!

Ego Has No Amigo

August 14, 2025 By Randy Hall

by Randy W. Hall

Humbleness certainly isn’t celebrated much in this culture. Way too often, most of the time the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Which is to say the one who makes the most noise seems to get the most attention. But when it comes to dignity, personal fulfillment and lasting success, being noticed and garnering attention just for the sake of getting ‘credit’ or ‘kudos’ isn’t worth the effort.

Watching the 10-part documentary on Michael Jordan and championship-era Chicago Bulls of the 1990’s, (specifically the 1998 squad which was the focal point of the project) this point that ego has no amigo was driven home to me. I followed that team in real time, like many sports fans, so taking a trip down memory lane to go back to that time and re-live the journey and glory of Jordan and his teammates and the Bulls organization was cool and illuminating. Unlike my 23-year-old self, (my age in 1998), in the documentary, I paid attention to the architects who put that squad together, Jerry Krause the GM and Jerry Reinsdorf, the owner.

While I won’t dispute that it was incredible that they managed to win 6 titles in 8 seasons, it’s also crazy to think that the last title (or maybe more), were won despite the disharmony fostered by Krause and, to a lesser extent, Reinsdorf. You see Krause bristled that all the credit for the teams run was heaped upon Jordan, head coach Phil Jackson and the excellent Scottie Pippen primarily. Whatever crumbs of credit were left over went to him, Dennis Rodman, Horace Grant and a host of other role players. This rankled him so severely he alienated Jackson, going so far as to inform him he could go 82-0 and win the title in 1998 and he wouldn’t be brought back as coach!

This of course set him at odds with Jordan, who vowed not to return to the team in 1999 unless Zen Master Phil was coaching him. And Scottie Pippen was royally pissed at the organization for being severely underpaid (despite he himself signing the contract that locked him in at below-market value for years). Krause fomented the anger and disgust because his ego was no amigo. He figuratively cut off his nose to spite his face.

Psychologists, both professional and armchair, would have a field day diagnosing and analyzing the pathos Krause must’ve had to voluntarily break up the Bulls before they ever lost their title on the actual court. It’s a study in hubris, and how pride cometh before a fall. Not only did Krause’s plan to disband the Bulls fail spectacularly, the documentary brought to light that they didn’t even get to enjoy the ride of becoming champions, at least to a certain extent, because of jealousy and distrust.

The road to excellence was fraught with levels of unnecessary stress and angst well before the fall from grace took it even lower. It was more a relief than joy when they won most of the time because Krause helped create a semi-hostile work environment, that along with media and fan expectations, was a classic “damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don’t” conundrum. Which is a shame, in hindsight, because when done from a love-based perspective of cooperation, winning a championship or world title is considered the main point of professional athletics and the veritable holy grail of accomplishments! Just about every championship squad had reunions and retrospectives dedicated to their team winning because in our culture it’s so difficult and rare to reach those heights!

To turn it into a petty, fear-based endeavor really sours the experience for the main players involved in the psychodrama. But these guys were human, and they get twisted up in human emotions like the rest of us. Maybe they were too alike in the sense that their stubbornness refused to bend in the heat of the moment to acknowledge they were on the same side with the same goal. Michael Jordan was notoriously petty (his Hall-of-Fame speech is a great example). Krause, for a variety of reasons, wouldn’t show weakness or compromise to anyone, apparently, not even an all-time meal ticket like Michael Jordan and Company.

So, what does this have to do with you and me and insurance? Here’s my crack at connecting the two seeming disparate concepts:

We all can learn that most of us have fear-based ego traps that can stop us from connecting with what’s best for us sometimes. Mr. Nice Guy Medicare Advisor (aka me, Randy W. Hall) view every client from a unique, holistic perspective. I’m not going to convince you one way or another based on what’s best for me, what company or insurance plan you ought to enroll in.

My job, as I see it, is to give someone unbiased information and answer questions that help us arrive at a good solution to a question of what is good for everyone’s particular situation. Also, if you come to me already knowing, (or pretty sure) of what would be, the best course of action, I’m happy to assess and, ideally, verify what you think already. Also, if necessary, I’d give you an alternative perspective to consider if warranted.

The issue with salespeople, or agents who look at their side of the client-agent relationship from a viewpoint slanted to their perspective, is it leads to problems from the clients’ angle that could’ve been avoided.

Example: You call someone from a particular insurance company. They look up your drugs and doctors and it turns out they’re all covered. From that agents’ perspective, they can’t sell you anything else, so they enroll you in the best plan that they have available to sell you.

It hardly rises to a crime, but little did you know that had you called an independent, non-biased agent (conveniently such as myself 😊), there was a much better option that what you enrolled in, in terms of co-pays for you plan to see doctors or a hospital stay, your drug prices may have been lower (sometimes significantly less), and you could’ve gotten superior extra benefits such as dental, vision, or hearing than what you were limited to by calling just one company to research your options.

Also, sadly, there are situations where folks are put onto plans that are ill-suited to a clients’ needs simply because the salesperson must meet a quota, or, to be more charitable, not in-tune with thinking of the client first and foremost. Sometimes, it is nefarious. Just like there are scam artists of all persuasions, some use your Medicare insurance as a vehicle to take advantage of you. Most robo-calls the vast majority of seniors deal with are attached to the parasites of my industry.

As a rule, I won’t make your insurance situation worse. If I can’t improve your insurance plan, I let you know and give you that peace of mind. My goal is to be a beacon of positivity in this world of Medicare madness. Give me a call or text about what it is you need or are looking for and let me prove it to you, with no pressure ever. For Mr. Nice Guy (aka me), no ego (on my part) is your amigo!

6 Reasons You Need an Independent Medicare Agent for Seniors in Tennessee

January 8, 2025 By Randy Hall

Medicare agent in Franklin, TN

Navigating the world of Medicare can feel overwhelming, especially for seniors who are exploring their healthcare options for the first time.

With so many plans, coverage levels, and insurance companies to choose from, it’s easy to feel lost. That’s why having an independent Medicare agent for seniors can make all the difference.

If you’re a senior living in Franklin, TN, or anywhere in Tennessee, working with an experienced Medicare agent can help you simplify the process and find the perfect plan for your needs.

Here are six reasons why partnering with an independent Medicare agent is essential:

Unbiased Guidance

Unlike agents tied to a specific insurance company, independent Medicare agents in Franklin, TN, or elsewhere can explore multiple options across different providers. This means they’re not limited to promoting one company’s plans.

Instead, they offer unbiased advice tailored to your unique needs. With an independent agent, you’ll receive honest recommendations designed to help you find the best coverage at the most affordable price.

Personalized Assistance

Medicare isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Each person has unique health needs, financial situations, and personal preferences. An independent agent takes the time to get to know you and understand your priorities.

They’ll explain the differences between Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement plans, and prescription drug coverage, helping you select the plan that’s right for you.

Cost Savings

Choosing the wrong Medicare plan can cost you in the long run. Whether it’s higher premiums, unexpected out-of-pocket expenses, or limited provider networks, mistakes can be expensive.

A knowledgeable Medicare agent for seniors will analyze your needs and ensure you’re getting the best value for your money, potentially saving you thousands of dollars over time.

Simplified Enrollment Process

Medicare enrollment can be confusing. From understanding deadlines to completing paperwork, there are many steps where mistakes can happen.

An independent agent will walk you through the entire process, ensuring everything is done correctly and on time. This can alleviate stress and give you peace of mind.

Ongoing Support

Medicare isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it program. Your needs and circumstances can change over time, and so can Medicare plans. An independent agent doesn’t just help you enroll—they continue to support you in the years to come.

Whether you need help reviewing your coverage during the Annual Enrollment Period or assistance resolving an issue with your plan, they’ll be there for you.

Local Expertise in Franklin

If you’re located in Franklin, working with a Medicare agent who knows the area is a huge advantage. They understand the local healthcare providers, hospital systems, and community-specific concerns.

This local knowledge ensures that the plans they recommend are practical and effective for your specific situation.

Your Guide to Medicare Supplement and Advantage Plans in Williamson County

January 12, 2024 By Randy Hall

Hi, I am Randy W. Hall, your trusted Medicare advisor, known as Mr. Nice Guy Medicare Advisor. With over thirteen years of experience as an independent agent based in Franklin, TN, I am here to be your guiding light through the intricate world of Medicare plans.

Today, let’s delve into the essential considerations when choosing between Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage in Williamson County.

Medicare Supplement

Medicare Supplement plans, often also known as Medigap, provide an additional coverage to fill the gaps left by original Medicare. These plans primarily help cover out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. In Tennessee, there are several Medicare Supplement plans available, each offering unique benefits.

When considering Medicare Supplement in Tennessee, it’s crucial to assess your healthcare needs and budget. Different plans provide varying levels of coverage, so selecting the one that aligns with your specific requirements is paramount.

I can guide you through the intricacies of each plan, ensuring you make an informed decision tailored to your individual circumstances.

Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage plans, on the other hand, are comprehensive health insurance plans offered by private companies approved by Medicare. These plans often include coverage beyond what original Medicare provides, such as vision and dental services. Williamson County residents have several Medicare Advantage plans to choose from, each option with its own set of features and benefits.

The Mr. Nice Guy Approach

When helping you choose between Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement in Williamson County, my approach is simple – personalized guidance. I take the time to understand your unique healthcare needs, budget constraints, and preferences.

As an independent agent representing the majority of Medicare plans in Tennessee, I can offer unbiased advice to help you navigate the complexities of the healthcare system.

Here are some key considerations when choosing a Medicare plan.

Healthcare Needs

Evaluate your current and anticipated healthcare needs. Consider factors such as prescription drug coverage, specialist visits, and any ongoing medical conditions. This assessment will thoroughly guide you in choosing a plan that addresses your specific requirements.

Budget Constraints

Understand your financial situation and determine a budget for healthcare expenses. Different plans come with varying premium costs, deductibles, and out-of-pocket limits. Balancing coverage and costs is crucial to ensure your healthcare plan aligns with your budget.

Network Coverage

Check the network of healthcare providers that are associated with each plan. Ensure your preferred doctors, hospitals, and specialists are included in the network to avoid any surprises when seeking medical care.

The End Note

The choice between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement in Tennessee is a personal one. What We Actually Do for Our Clients

September 26, 2023 By Randy Hall

I’ve been an independent Medicare insurance broker since 2010 and have been lucky enough to have a nice book-of-business of folks I’ve helped. Some of my clients do go all the way back to when I was a rookie agent and finding my way!

One of the reasons why, according to them, is I remind them several times annually who I am and if they need my help with anything related to their Medicare plan, I’m responsive and helpful. Unfortunately, in my industry, there’s a lot of turnover (91% or more of agents specializing in Medicare don’t make it past their first 18 months in business before quitting). Not only that, those who sign up under someone may never, or rarely, hear back from the person once they enrolled them in their plan.

Early on I realized that it was far easier to keep a client than to go get new ones. So, I decided, especially for my Medicare Advantage clients, to give them a call every October to check in on them and see how their particular plan was working for them. Furthermore, if they wanted to do a complimentary Medicare review, I’d rather be the one doing it than someone else. Besides, one of the benefits of being a broker is I can offer multiple options in terms of plans and companies.
Since these Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans change their formularies and co-pays annually, as an independent agent, I knew that what was good when I enrolled someone, was subject to change. And if someone’s going to change, they could still keep me as an agent.

I also mail my clients a letter every September to remind them I’ll be reaching out to them. In addition we also mention they’re about to be hit with tons of telemarketing calls, have their mailboxes filled with confusing information and non-stop TV & radio ads that beckon you to call them. We caution them not to do that as they’ll likely be calling overseas and speaking to people who don’t know their local market and won’t give advice tailored to their needs.

But the most important thing I do for my clients is to actually help them if they ever run into an issue with their plan, or don’t know where to start to take advantage of a benefit, amongst other things. I pride myself on the personal touch and my clients will tell you I go above and beyond to help them. I have many 5-star reviews on Google business so you don’t have to take my word for it 😊
